UFC 102 Fantasy League Predictions

Well, it's time once again to make those all important picks for our UFC fantasy league. This time we'll be picking the fights for UFC 102. I have to say that I'm not really excited about this card. With that said, however, it should be a night of pretty good fights overall. I will not be watching this one live as I'll be at the Dallas Cowboys game so hopefully we can have a Guy's Night soon to watch the results. Remember, if you would like to join our fantasy league just shoot me an email through the contact page and we'll get you signed up. Anyways, on to the picks...

So there you have it. Now I'll hit the high points and give you a little insight as to why I picked who I did.

Randy Couture v. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (Main Event) - Let's face it, Randy Couture is a freak of nature. It's amazing that he is still very competitive at his age. Sure he lost to Lesnar but that guy has some massive hands! Couture is also a wrestler and was just not strong enough to handle Lesnar's overwhelming size. Nogueira, on the other hand, has definitely been on the downward slope since entering the UFC. His last fight with Mir was definitely less than impressive. I believe that Couture will use his wrestling to neutralize and take down Nogueira allowing him to land some good shots on the ground which will ultimately lead to a 2nd round TKO stoppage.

Nate Marquardt v. Demian Maia - Both of these guys are strong competitors and very skilled. I am a big fan of Demian Maia. He puts on exciting fights with his excellent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills. He is also undefeated up to this point in time. Demian Maia kind of reminds me of a Lyoto Machida as he is also very well rounded in karate and judo. Marquardt is definitely the more experienced of the two fighters. Marquardt's key to winning this fight is to keep it standing as he is the better striker. Maia should be able to take Marquardt down at some point, probably around the 2nd round. Once on the ground, Marquardt doesn't stand much of a chance against Maia's ground game. Look for a 2nd round submission by Maia for the win.
